چکیده

Fourteen patients were selected with advanced superficial chronic gastritis (grade II), marked chronic gastritis with partial atrophy (grade III), or chronic gastritis with total atrophy in which intestinal metaplasia was observed (grade IV). Azathioprine was administrated to all of them for periods varying from two and a half to six months. There were no side effects except in one patient, in whom nausea and vomiting made it necessary to remove him from the trial. Acid output in these 14 patients showed an average change which was statistically significant.Statistical analysis of the sample as a whole shows that, with a 0.95 probability improvement could be expected in 37 to 85% of the patients given azathioprine.

Effect of sodium hydrosulfide on mRNA expression of prostaglandin E2 receptors in response to mucosal acidification and distention-induced gastric acid secretion in rats

Objective(s): Prostaglandins have been shown to mediate the gastro-protective effect of sodium hydrosulfide (NaHS) but effect of NaHS on mRNA expression of prostaglandin E2 receptors (EP1, 3-4; EPs) has not been investigated. Therefore, this study designed to evaluate the effect of NaHS on mRNA expression of EPs receptors in response to mucosal acidification and distention-induced gastric acid ...

Gastric studies in sjögren's syndrome.

In 1943 Henrik Sj6gren first described the syndrome which bears his name. It is generally recognized that the diagnosis can be made when any two of the following three features are present: xerostomia with or without salivary gland enlargement, keratoconjunctivitis sicca, and connective tissue disease, usually rheumatoid arthritis (Bunim, 1961; Bloch and Bunim, 1963). The xerostomia and keratoc...

Association between Helicobacter pylori cagA, babA2 Virulence Factors and Gastric Mucosal Interleukin-33 mRNA Expression and Clinical Outcomes in Dyspeptic Patients

Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection has been reported in more than half of the world human population. It is associated with gastric inflammation and noticeable infiltration of the immune cells to the stomach mucosa by several cytokines secretion. IL-1&beta, IL-18 have been shown to contribute to H. pylori induced gastritis, but the details of inflammation and association of virulence fac...

The relationship between acid secretion after augmented histamine stimulation and the histology of the gastric mucosa.

Augmented histamine tests and gastric mucosal biopsies were performed on 97 patients. The amount of acid secreted was closely correlated with the histological appearances of the gastric mucosa. There was a striking difference between the acid secretion of patients with normal biopsies and patients with superficial gastritis. Achlorhydria was not present in patients with normal biopsies. An occa...

Effect of thyroid hormones on basal and stimulated gastric acid secretion due to histamine, carbachol, and pentagastrin in rat (an in vitro study)

Although thyroid hormones are known to influence acid secretion, but exact mechanisms are not fully understood. So, in this experimental study carbachol, histamine, and pentagastrin were used to stimulate acid secretion in isolated stomach of hypo- and hyperthyroid rats and data were compared with controls. Each group consisted of 8 N-Mari rats from both sexes weighing 246 ± 5 g. Hypo- and hype...
